Hi Jess and Chris,
My name is Olivia and I am writing to you in regards to the possibility of publishing an article about your voyages and adventures!
Here is a little bit of a back story that will prove just how small the sailing community really is. I am from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I spent some time working at a yacht chandlery before beginning my school career to become a professional navigator. During that time in Halifax I met Jim, the builder of your beautiful sailing ship. We bonded over our interests of traditional rigged sailing ships. He shared with me the story of “Telport” and that’s when my interests started to grow.
Fast forward to now and a friend mentions that “Teleport” is for sale. We laugh because instantly, I know the ship and her history.
Currently, in my down time as a student I am managing and writing a sailing blog. I would love the opportunity to write a story about your adventures ! Your achievements are very similar to my dreams. Let me know if this is something you may be interested in!

| Feature Film or Documentary ... ??? (Frans Reijkersz - 29th Jul 18)Hello there,
I have followed quietly all your travels and video's over the years. I have even re-watched them a couple of times. I did this again a few days ago. Then I remembered that once you mentioned that it was the idea to let a professional editor make a full length film about your adventures. From all the clips, you have only used probably only a fraction of them. Like to know if this is ever going to happen. Perhaps I missed something? Like to hear from you ...... | Chris & Jess's Reply (11th Aug 18)Hi Frans! We too would like to know if that is ever going to happen! Haha. We seem to just always be too snowed under with other projects and things, and never have the time to get this doco project off the ground. We did want to do it ourselves but of course gave up on that.. We are yet to find any decent editor that is willing to take on the story too... ideally we'd find someone who was keen to take it on with a bit of a commission arrangement so that if the doco did well then they would get a portion of its earnings, rather than us having to fork out $thousands to get it made in the first place... But so far, no takers, and we haven't even had the time to go asking around for the last few years... super busy building our eco lodge SwellLodge.com - if you know of any doco makers who might be keen, we'd love to hear from them! We loved our NA29 - in an ideal world our next boat would just be a 40ft version of her made out of aluminium - we have already designed it in our head but it's just a little unpractical to make. I think for long distance cruising I (Jess) would like a little more creature comforts next time like hot shower, fridge, freezer and stove that works. I would also like bigger windows so we could see bears walking outside while having dinner and another cabin for guests if we had friends or family who wanted to join us. It'll also be nice to have an anchor winch, a better system for lifting the outboard on/off etc. There wasn't much we disliked about Teleport, if we had more time and money we could have made her more comfortable but now we'll look for these comforts in our next cursing boat. Once the lodge is finished :) Thanks again for your communication. |

| Your neighbours on Christmas Island (Tom - 5th Jul 17)Hi Jess and Chris,
I follow your adventures since the beginning of the Teleport sailing. My congratulations with your new project ! But as I looked up Christmas Island on Google maps, I discovered that only a few hunderd meters away from the Swell Lodge there is a vast Detention Center. According to Wikepedia the situation of the refugees there is very difficult (overcrowding & riots...) How you are going to deal with this to assure the tranquility of your guests ? Cordially, Tom | Chris & Jess's Reply (5th Jul 17)G'day Tom - good question! Firstly, the whole facility is slated to close at the end of this year, so that's great. It's not housed illegal immigrants for a long time now, and thankfully gone are the days when there were dozens of boatloads of asylum seekers turning up each month causing this centre that was designed to accommodate about 800 had many many thousands there, hence the riots etc. There are some people temporarily detained there at the moment, but they are not asylum seekers, just ppl who've had their regular visas revoked due to breaking the law I gather. Anyway, the centre is over a km away out of sight up and over the top of the island's plateau so there's no way you can hear it or even see it's lighting glow at night - I actually camped out in a hammock at the lodge site last night - pitch black. =) Actually, the waves breaking on the shore made it hard to even hear the birds. You'd never know it was there. =) |
